What’s a common misconception people have about happiness?

A lot of people believe that happiness is this permanent feeling. I have heard some many people say, “I just want to be happy.” “If I had this or that, I would be happy”. Happy is a temporary feeling, this is not something that is everlasting. We all have these common feelings happy, sad, nervous, angry, calm, tired, etc. All temporary emotions because our emotions change daily as we go through at the day. You can be happy in one minute and tired the next, or angry the next, or sad the next. Depending on what has taken place within that day in time.

The misconception here is people believe that happiness is permanent. Happiness is not permanent but joy is. The Lord Jesus Christ gives us peace and joy. Why does the Bible use joy instead of happiness? Because Joy is God given, and everlasting. If you want everlasting ‘happiness’ seek the Lord Jesus Christ for Joy. Joy is deeply rooted and no one can take that away from you.

I’ll leave you readers with this Bible verse

Reflection:

  • What gives you joy?
  • Would you rather have happiness or joy?
